Dane
The founding Team
Dane French Spanish English
Dane grew up in the French immersion program in Canada, but he personally didn't quite understand how powerful languages were until he started travelling. By being able to ask for directions, haggle, and take care of his friends, Dane realized how much more experience you can get out of a trip when you are able to communicate in the native language. To him, it's like night and day and this is what motivated him to create Monkey Lingo.
These days, Dane is not only busy going to different networking events each week, but also salsa dances, goes on long camping trips, and dreams each day of the next trip while looking at his world scratch map. Cummulatively, he has spent 3 years of his life abroad and tries to spend at least 1 month in each country he visits.
Mateo
Mateo Spanish
From Cali, Colombia, Mateo enjoys travelling, discovering new places, cultures, people and food with traditional ingredients. When he's abroad, he always visits the local museums, but also goes after those "not-so-touristy" places. This, all while carrying his camera to capture the memories.

Friends describe him as a very quiet and easy going person who can enjoy a good conversation, food, a beer and/or whisky. Easily finding pleasure in the simple things, he keeps his ear out to listen to different opinions while staying ready to help.
​
With his extensive experience from his degree in Communication with Narrative Creation studies, videography, scriptwriting, photography, and teaching (9+ years as a College Lecturer), Mateo is our go-to guy for our Spanish students!

Ibtissam
Ibtissam
​
Meet Ibtissam whose name translates to "Smile" in Arabic. She is from Morocco and has a friendly personality with a passion for cooking, exploring diverse cultures, traveling and practicing yoga.
​
Embracing life with open arms, she carries a background in marketing and has traveled extensively around Africa and Europe. Her infectious smile and boundless energy infuses positivity in every venture she undertakes.
In truth, the rest of the team has never seen Ibtissam sad or in a bad mood. This is even when she had a broken foot from playing around with her beloved son! This part of her personality helps her French students, as almost all can be intimidated to speak French at first in our timed conversations.

Ariana

Ariana is from the beautiful and warm country of Nicaragua in Central America. She loves discovering new places and going on adventures. She also likes to stay active by dancing, working out, taking kick boxing, and hanging out with friends. Her passion above everything though is learning new languages.
​
Growing up in a multicultural environment, she became fluent in German and English, and during her engineering studies, she learned French. She truly believes that language and culture are intertwined and that by learning about other people's cultures, we can understand their ways of living better.
Ariana is a determined and enthusiastic person who loves taking on new challenges and growing as a person. If you are in Ariana's class, she will be there every step to help you take on the challenge of the Monkey Lingo program!
