Dane
The Monkey Lingo Team
Dane English, French, Spanish,
Dane grew up in the French immersion program in Canada, but he personally didn't quite understand how powerful languages were until he started travelling. By being able to ask for directions, haggle, and take care of his friends, Dane realized how much more experience you can get out of a trip when you are able to communicate in the native language. To him, it's like night and day and this is what motivated him to create Monkey Lingo.
These days, Dane is not only busy going to different networking events each week, but also salsa dances, goes on long camping trips, and dreams each day of the next trip while looking at his world scratch map. Cummulatively, he has spent 3 years of his life abroad and tries to spend at least 1 month in each country he visits.
Mateo
Mateo Spanish
From Cali, Colombia, Mateo enjoys travelling, discovering new places, cultures, people and food with traditional ingredients. When he's abroad, he always visits the local museums, but also goes after those "not-so-touristy" places. This, all while carrying his camera to capture the memories.

Friends describe him as a very quiet and easy going person who can enjoy a good conversation, food, a beer and/or whisky. Easily finding pleasure in the simple things, he keeps his ear out to listen to different opinions while staying ready to help.
​
With his extensive experience from his degree in Communication with Narrative Creation studies, videography, scriptwriting, photography, and teaching (9+ years as a College Lecturer), Mateo is our go-to guy for our Spanish students!

Lalie
Lalie French, English, Spanish
Lalie was born in Lyon, France, and after moving to Canada at the end of 2017, she had to start from scratch in learning English. Through socializing and working with her own English tutor, she became fluent in under a year and so she knows exactly what's needed to get there!
​
Outside of teaching, Lalie enjoys drawing and reading as well as going out with her friends. While being a full-time university student in life sciences, she enjoys the topics of her courses and the many laboratories she takes a role in. While passionate about biological and medical sciences, she also finds a deeper connection to her identity when teaching French and has also become passionate about teaching languages on a regular basis.
​
Through her science background, Lalie appreciates breaking down complex grammatical rules of the French language into clear, logical explanations. She values consistency and close attention to detail and is the best at applying the Monkey Lingo guidance of encouraging students to notice their mistakes and reflect on why the correct answer works to foster their own autonomy. ​

Jesús' path to teaching took an unexpected turn in 2013, when he decided to leave accounting behind and pursue his passion for education in Argentina. He found himself teaching English in rural and boarding schools, working with students from diverse backgrounds, including the Huarpe community. Witnessing students discover their potential and find their own paths has been the most rewarding experience of his career.
​
Beyond the classroom, Jesús enjoys music, singing, cooking, and sharing a good laugh. He believes that a positive and engaging atmosphere is key to successful learning. With a knack for finding humor in everyday situations, even grammar lessons can become enjoyable. If you are looking to share some giggles in class, Jesús is the teacher for you!

With a teaching degree from Universidad del Aconcagua, Argentina and now learning French in the Monkey Lingo program itself, Jesús is now even able to chip in when needed in group classes for French. He is always eager to create a supportive and enriching learning environment and with his background always makes sure to answer questions with all the technical explanations when needed.
Hakima
Hakima French, English
Born into Algeria’s rich multicultural landscape, Hakima grew up surrounded by multiple languages, and traditions. This early exposure shaped her deep appreciation for communication, cultural exchange, and human connection. Moving between French, Kabyle, Arabic, and English has always been a natural part of her life.
Hakima is passionate about cooking and sharing traditional dishes and pastries such as couscous, makrout, tamina and tajine. She enjoys volunteering and takes an active role in organizing both small gatherings and large community events with friends. She loves running, dancing, and staying physically active. Curious and reflective by nature.
With over ten years of experience teaching and tutoring, Hakima has worked with learners of different ages, backgrounds, and cultures. Known for her patience and attentiveness, she supports students in building confidence, understanding complex ideas, and expressing themselves clearly with good pronunciation. From young children to adults, she adapts her approach to each learner’s pace and needs

Joffrey was a bum that Dane found in the streets! Just kidding! But really, this world traveller has built a wealth of knowledge and experience with languages while travelling the world and avoiding the typical tourist experience. If you want to know all the French street talk in and outside of the Monkey Lingo program, he's your guy. You would have a hard time finding another francophone with more knowledge and experience with the variety of French speaking cultures as Joffrey.
Originally from France, Joffrey moved to Canada to pursue his career in the Film/TV industry.
Through his work, he continues to travel across Canada and discover all the different French and Spanish communities locally. Even now, he is one of our Spanish teachers as well, as he continues to learn in the Monkey Lingo advanced Spanish program after having learned a great deal continually conversing with his hispanophone friends.
Lover of the French language in particular, it’s littérature, its music, its food, and its movies, Joffrey has a real passion for sharing his love for his mother tongue and francophone culture, and ensuring you reach your goals in your target language.​
